// IceIndex Day 2 Picks
STEALS OF
THE DRAFT

Rounds 2–7 is where drafts are won and lost. These are the players IceIndex identified as future NHLers hiding in plain sight — taken later than they should have been.

USNTDP · C · Undrafted — Watch as Free Agent
Dayne Beuker
Scout's Take Heading to the WHL next season before joining the reigning champion Denver Pioneers in 2027–28. Had a strong showing for the USA at the U18's and has higher upside than his draft position suggests due to his relentless motor. Went undrafted — IceIndex still believes. Heading to the WHL then Denver Pioneers in 2027–28. His relentless motor will turn heads. Watch for a free agent signing.
OHL · LW · Undrafted — Watch as Free Agent
Brady Wassilyn
Scout's Take Was on a non-traditional London Knights team that took a step back this year after a dominant run. Wassilyn is the exact player you want to target on Day 2 — creative, fast, good hands, and high offensive upside. Went undrafted — IceIndex believes this is a mistake. Creative, fast, good hands and high offensive upside. A free agent signing that will make sense for a team needing a developmental winger.
WHL · C · ✓ Drafted — ANA · Rd. 6 · #192
Noah Kosick
Scout's Take Split time between Swift Current and Seattle, putting up strong numbers on both. One of the youngest players in the draft — turns 18 in August. Taking his high hockey IQ to a loaded Michigan squad next season, so temper expectations short term. Drafted by Anaheim in Round 6 at #192 overall — exactly the late round steal IceIndex identified. Heading to Michigan next season on a loaded squad. We'll be talking about this pick come 2027–28.
WHL · D · Undrafted — Watch as Free Agent
Arseni Anisimov
Scout's Take Was in the shadows of Carson Carels in Prince George this season — a tough spot to get noticed. Anisimov put up impressive 5v5 numbers with a strong physical presence and aggression to his game. Went undrafted despite IceIndex flagging him as a high upside swing. His 5v5 numbers and physical presence in Prince George were impressive — a team will sign him as a free agent and be glad they did.
OHL · D · Undrafted — Watch Next Season
Cole Emerton
Scout's Take A player IceIndex has identified as someone who will pop off next season. Heading to Sarnia after an offseason trade, finally getting out of the shadow of Kashawn Aitcheson in Barrie — who commanded most of the offensive opportunities. Went undrafted — but IceIndex maintains this is a player to watch. Moving to Sarnia gets him out of Aitcheson's shadow. Check back on Emerton after next season.
U20/SHL · RW/LW · 🌍 Norway · ✓ Drafted — VAN · Rd. 2 · #41
Niklas Aaram-Olsen
Scout's Take A pure sniper with a wicked release he can get off quickly. With the rise of Norwegian hockey, IceIndex wouldn't have been surprised to see him go end of the 1st round. Drafted by Vancouver in Round 2 at #41 overall — IceIndex called this one. His pure sniper ability and quick release were too good to pass up. The Canucks get a prospect with real upside.
MHL · G · 🌍 Russia · ✓ Drafted — NSH · Rd. 3 · #70
Dmitri Borichev
Scout's Take Has dominated at every level through his development. A fast, smart goalie who is already structured positionally in a pro style. On the smaller side at 6'2 for a goalie, but he is too smart for teams to not jump on in the 2nd or 3rd round. Drafted by Nashville in Round 3 at #70 overall — exactly the range IceIndex projected. Don't let the size concern fool you — the Predators got a smart, fast goalie with pro-level positioning already.
WHL · G · 🌍 Czech Republic · ✓ Drafted — COL · Rd. 4 · #126
Tobiáš Tvrzník
Scout's Take Was on a weaker Wenatchee squad this season but still sported a strong SV% — keeping his team in games regularly. Similar to Jakub Dobes, he will be attending Ohio State University following in his countryman's footsteps. Drafted by Colorado in Round 4 at #126 overall. Good size, methodical, reads the game well from the net. Following in Jakub Dobes' footsteps to Ohio State — the Avalanche get a patient, intelligent goalie with real upside.

Scout's Take Late birthday, but has a complete game at both ends of the rink. Can battle in the corners, beat you with his shot, drive play off the rush, and hold his own on the wall in his own end. The full package.

Scout's Take A true offensive dynamo and potential franchise stud. Put up unheard-of numbers in Medicine Hat before Penn State. Slow start at the college level by phenom standards, but took off in the second half. Frame and play away from the puck keep him off the top spot — on nights where the offence isn't clicking, his impact disappears.

Scout's Take True WHL-style defenceman who can do it all on ice and in the gym. Tough, fluid skater with an underrated transition game and impressive offensive upside. Top-4 floor with a Top-pair ceiling — always bet on a D-man with elite work ethic away from the rink.

IX Grade A-
Scout's Take A do-it-all defenceman who can run your powerplay, transitions at an elite level, makes the smart play consistently, and held his own against some of the top prospects in the game this season. Projects as a minute-muncher in the NHL with high offensive upside. It was a complete toss-up between Reid and Carels — ultimately Carels gets the edge on ceiling alone. I also lean toward WHL defencemen over OHL given the style of play in each league.

IX Grade B+
Scout's Take The biggest riser in this year's class. After 26 points in 15 playoff games for Brantford, the hockey world took notice. A defence-first centre that every team covets — but don't let that fool you. Improved his offensive game as the season went on, scoring off the rush, on one-timers, and driving the net. A true full toolkit. I have a tough time projecting him as a true 1C, but he could get there. Projects as a strong 2C who can be depended on to go against any team's top line. Similar to Bo Horvat with more speed.

IX Grade A
Scout's Take Surprisingly overlooked this season. Made the jump to the NCAA at 17 as a defenceman and actually slid down draft boards — I think that's a mistake. He has all the tools to be a top-pairing d-man in all situations. Can skate, closes gaps as well as anyone in this class, and rarely makes an error with the puck. If it weren't for light production numbers, we'd be talking about him as the top defenceman in the draft.

IX Grade A-
Scout's Take The exact player profile I've identified in previous drafts with success. Under the NHL norm for his position yet an absolute beast everywhere on the ice. Playing 17+ minutes a night in the SHL as a teenager and holding his own against top players is rare. His World Juniors performance moved him up my board — sharing a line with Stenberg at the World Championships and dominating against NHL-calibre competition sealed it. He will make it. The only question is his offensive ceiling.

Scout's Take Immediately stands out — can skate, has size, and is dynamic. Helped quarterback one of the WHL's juggernauts this season and blossomed as the year went on. High ceiling with PP1 potential and top-pair upside, anchored by an NHL-calibre shot. Decision making and compete need refinement, but the juice is there. If your team misses on the top four d-men in this class, Rudolph is a fantastic consolation prize.

Scout's Take Dynamic on the rush — pulls defenders in and creates lanes for teammates, can beat a defender 1-on-1 with his hands or simply out-think them. A riser on my board after an impressive U18 World Championship for Team USA, earning a spot on the tournament All-Star team. The kind of player who makes everyone around him better.

Scout's Take Off the board compared to most rankings — but I can't rank him lower. He is that gifted offensively. Could be the steal of the first round. Some of his tape reminds me of a poor man's William Nylander. Compete away from the puck needs to improve and he could be a touch faster, but his offensive abilities will be too hard to keep out of the NHL. High ceiling, infectious game to watch.
